Two Deadly Viruses and No Cure

May 9th, 2007

Africa is dying from AIDS.

Immediate cure for AIDS is required.

Death can come from a simple cold when you have AIDS.

Some children’s parents have AIDS and have died.

Africa is getting AIDS from HIV.

No cure for AIDS or HIV has been found.

Death can come from the flu or any sickness when you have AIDS.

HIV does not kill.

If you have HIV or AIDS you should talk to your doctor.

Viruses can also kill a person.

A Deadly Virus

May 9th, 2007

Attacking many people.

Inhabitants of Liberia are suffering.

Death waits for inoccent people.

Sadness is around them.

All they want is a cure.

No one understands what it’s like.

Dying is becoming too common.

Help is needed.

Ignorance doesn’t help.

Very much can be done.

Child Labor In Liberia, by Jane Wiggers a sixth grade student

April 30th, 2007

Back in September our sixth grade class had been studying Liberia.  When we found out about Liberia’s child labor issue we were devastated.  I was chosen along with Sam Snyder, Amber Ludwig and Sarah Harp to create a power point presentation on the issue. This presentation had to be easy to comprehend and entertaining for young children.  We wanted them to get involved. The presentation below was presented to kindergarten through third grade students by the four of us.  It took about a week to make and was presented on three different days to one class at a time.   We hope you enjoy it. Who is generous, kind,
Loving to all, gifted,
And respectful.
She is the first black female president,
A grandmother of six,

The Ellen I remember the most,

Helped Liberia a lot,

Was sentenced to ten years in prison for speaking out,
And is referred to as the “Iron Lady” because she is so strong.
